With the expansion of immersive media and their multitude of applications across a variety of industries, the potential of these technologies within education and training haven't gone unnoticed. A variety of studies, from academia to the industry, have increasingly begun exploring and critically evaluating the technological and pedagogical capabilities of Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR) and Mixed Reality (MR) within teaching and learning. Case studies showcasing different implementations of immersive technology within education exists, however, there is still a significant gap within the literature in regards to how to effectively design and use immersive virtual learning environments.

It was precisely in the challenge of understanding how, which, when, and if to use these media in education that I designed and executed a 10-week long live project exploring the pedagogical potentials and limits of VR, AR, and MR within higher educational settings. The project, therefore, aimed at inviting and supporting the University of Brighton in joining those pioneers Universities worldwide invested in immersive-technology-based learning and to provide the institution with a strategy on how to cost-effectively and sustainably integrate these media within the institution educational scheme.
